Diwali Markets of Pune
Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in India, and in my city Pune also it's only next to Ganesh pooja in scale. The old city Diwali markets of Pune are the liveliest in days leading up to the festivals - men, women of all age groups come in large numbers and shop till they have exhausted all the money.
Diwali is often the time when new cloths are made for the family member, and this is especially exciting time for the kids. Not just clothes, will correct strategy kids also get some new toys to play with as well.
Families also buy idols of Gods, especially in metals like brass for their home temples. Since the days before Diwali are so auspicious, many families postpone their shopping to these days for even things like utensils for the kitchen.
Not to mention the iconic Puneri kandils and firecrackers, where most money is spent. Personally I am not in favor of buying firecrackers, but I guess kids love them still :)
Here are some images as I walked on the streets, chatting with people a few days before Diwali!
