Top Adventures in Singapore - JetPack, MegaZip and SeaTrek!

So what are the Top Adventures in Singapore? But wait a minute - for such a tiny country like Singapore, are there any adventures at all? If you have any such questions, this is the perfect article for you.

I was in Singapore a few weeks back and one of the areas I concentrated most on was Adventures. I can't say I am an adventure-only traveler, but given a choice I often do not turn back from them. Singapore surprised as well as challenged me, with the biggest surprise coming on my last day!

JetPack - Sea Breeze

When I became James Bond!

Walking on water, plunging into dolphin dives, then shooting up high into the sky with a corkscrew, these tricks are not for the faint hearted!

Jetpack was the last activity I did in Singapore before flying back to India, and it was certainly the most exciting and interesting one. Actually when I went to Sea Breeze counter in Sentosa, I had actually no idea what I was getting into. When the instructor asked me how much I wanted to fly, I was terribly confused and told him so. He laughed and showed me a brochure on what I was getting into! Suddenly I could feel an adrenaline rush and immediately agreed to try it out.

The 45 minutes for the program basically includes watching a video, a short briefing on safety, water safety test and then flight in the air! It’s difficult to explain how you do this - it’s sort of biking where you use the throttle to raise yourself up and your shoulders to turn. The incline of the body decides how fast you go.

I don’t think I did as well as I wanted to (especially the time in air), but this was so much fun! For anyone still thinking about it, let me assure that its quite safe and not as difficult as it might appear to be.

SeaTrek

Swimming with the Sharks and giant Manta Ray

I was at the Cat Cora Restaurant enjoying my fish lunch and looking into the aquarium which was one of the walls at the restaurant. The food was good but I was constantly distracted by the fishes swimming right next to me. As soon as I got done, it was time for a SeaTrek. I had very little time to research well about the activity and was going with the flow, so was rather happy when I was told that I the sea-trek would actually take place right in that big pond. I was very excited especially with the prospect of spending time with the huge manta ray!

A closer view of the Manta Ray

As soon as I was in my diving gear, my guide gave me basic instructions and some knowledge about some of the interesting fishes that I was likely to come across. It was quite an unusual day because I was the only diver and so had full attention of my diver friends. Equipped with a go-pro (which I rented there) and a six kg heavy helmet (feels much lighter under water), I was ready to meet the fish!

I must confess here that I have never done scuba diving before and so the experience was the first of its kind for me and I loved it! I could come to not just manta ray, but also all other fishes and I think my unnecessary fear also just dissolved in the water. They would come so close to me, but would always change course before colliding with me. I think now I am even more excited about my first scuba diving lessons in the open sea :)

The Megazip line

On a personal experience level, the ride is not as high on adrenaline rush, but makes up for it for the beautiful views. It has been designed to accommodate all age groups so the entire family can do it together.

Up to three people can start together and it takes a little more than a minute to reach the bottom. There are cameras everywhere and they capture your images and videos, and within minutes of reaching down you can pay for the video and get a pretty sleek and edited version right in your inbox.

Singapore Flyer

Moët & Chandon Champagne Flight

Though Singapore flyer doesn’t really qualify to be a typical adventure, it makes the cut in my list. At the end of the long and tiring day after trying out all possible adventurous (well almost), its a great place to relax and rejuvenate.

Singapore Flyer - the view inside!

Singapore Flyer is the world’s largest observation wheel (outside United States). Standing at a stunning 165m from the ground, the Flyer offers you breathtaking, panoramic views of the Marina Bay, our island city and beyond. There’s also a wide range of shops, restaurants, activities and facilities.

The champagne was great, but the view of Singapore from the top is absolutely unmatched. I strongly recommend it for couples, but also for solo travelers.

  2. Sid, I can imagine what you must have felt while doing Jetpack...sorry..one should not laugh but I could not control myself as I could see you struggling to remain airborn. These sports need coordination and then its beautiful ! Btw you were wearing full face diving mask and not usual mask wherein we breath through mouth. I enjoyed everything and would love to try Jetpack :) I am excited and happy for you that you tried all these things. That first time try in each adventourous sport is hilarious, you know what I mean :)

  3. Haha...I completely agree with you on this :) It was challenging and fun. I got only like 15 minutes to actually try and master it...so the mastering is certainly left of the next time :)
